UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD COP 15) (Part 2)
CBD COP 15 Part 2, will take place from 5 – 17 December, in Montreal, the seat of the CBD Secretariat. China, as COP 15 President, will continue to preside over the Meetings. CBD COP 15 will review the achievement and delivery of the CBD’s Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020. It is also anticipated that the final decision on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework will be taken, together with decisions on related topics including capacity building and resource mobilization. Geneva Meetings 2022: Governments advance negotiations on ambitious global biodiversity framework but require more time
Governments to hold the fourth meeting of the working group on 21-26 June in Nairobi, Kenya, before the adoption of the framework at the resumed UN Biodiversity Conference (COP-15) later this year in Kunming, China.

The Edinburgh Declaration: The role of regional governments within the UN Convention on Biodiversity – COP15
Organized in collaboration with the European Committee of the Regions and ICLEI, this event is a celebration of regional and local action in the global fight against biodiversity loss. The event will be a panel discussion running from 10:30 am – 11:30 am CET, followed by a networking brunch on Wednesday, June 1st at Scotland House Brussels.
Resumed sessions of SBSTTA 24, SBI 3 and WG2020-3
The resumed sessions of the twenty-fourth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 24), the third meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI 3), and the third meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (WG2020-3), originally scheduled for 12-28 January 2022 is now planned to take place on 14-29 March 2022, at the International Conference Center Geneva in Geneva, Switzerland. The Secretariat will keep these arrangements under review in light of the evolving COVID-19 pandemic.
Commemoration of the 50th anniversary of UNEP
Immediately after UNEA-5.2, the Assembly will hold a Special Session of the Assembly on 3 – 4 March 2022, devoted to the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of UN Environment Programme in 1972 (UNEP@50). The special session will be held under the overall theme of “Strengthening UNEP for the implementation of the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration: From commitments to actions for nature
The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021 – 2030) is a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world. It envisions a world where – for the health and wellbeing of all life on Earth and that of future generations – the relationship between humans and nature has been restored, where the area of healthy ecosystems is increasing, and where ecosystem loss, fragmentation, and degradation has been ended.
