CitiesWithNature, co-founded by ICLEI, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the Nature Conservancy (TNC), is a global partnership initiative that provides a shared engagement platform for cities and regions, partners, practitioners, researchers and urban communities to connect, learn, act, share, and inspire each other in mainstreaming nature in and around urban areas in ways that benefit both people and nature.
Together with the soon-to-be launched RegionsWithNature platform, the platform serves as the ‘one stop shop’ for all levels of subnational governments to share and report on their actions in contributing to the implementation of the CBD; and reporting on commitments and targets under the new Global Biodiversity Framework. CitiesWithNature is supported by the SCBD and a wide range of global partner oranizations who are co-developing the initiative and online platform. In the lead up to COP 15, we are calling on all cities, large and small, to register and take action now, as we mobilize our constituency to shape and influence the Post-2020 GBF. This call to action was echoed in a letter penned by ICLEI’s Global Ambassador for Local Biodiversity and Mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, on International Day for Biodiversity (22 May 2020), which calls on all Mayors and leaders of local and subnational governments to take urgent action and join CitiesWithNature.

CitiesWithNature will soon be launching the much anticipated Commitment Platform, which aims to provide a space for local and subnational governments to commit to taking action and set targets in line with the Global Biodiversity Framework as the basis for ongoing monitoring and reporting on progress, thereby coordinating local and subnational contributions to achieving the global biodiversity agenda.
