The first meeting of the Open Ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework took place from 27 to 30 August 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. Our constituency was well represented at this critical milestone on the Roadmap to COP 15. A further statement was presented by ICLEI on behalf of our local and subnational government constituency during the session on the future work programme on 29 August 2019.
In line with Decision 14/34, we committed to harness our constituency to actively engage and contribute to the development of a robust Post-2020 GBF, under the auspices of our common roadmap. The event saw no less than 17 Parties specifically recognizing and mentioning the pivotal role and contribution which local and subnational governments can and should make to the implementation of the new Global Biodiversity Framework.
